Step 1 is done and now it's time for clinical rotations!

This is going to be where all of basic sciences comes to life. Rotations are full of teaching, adventure and fun. You are probably nervous to start but you don't have to be. Don't worry if your physical exam skills aren't perfect, this is where you learn all of the important skills.

I started with 6 weeks of psychiatry, then had 6 weeks of Ob/Gyn, followed by 3 months of internal medicine, 3 months of surgery, 6 weeks of family medicine and ended with 6 weeks of pediatrics! I loved each and every rotation. I had an amazing learning experience, met great people and improved my medical knowledge and practical skills. 3rd year flew by!!

A lot of students ask me about the dress code. It can either be scrubs or professional attire with your white coat and stethoscope depending on the rotation and hospital. At my hospital, we could wear any color scrubs that we wanted (Surgery and Ob/Gyn had hospital scrubs for surgical cases that we borrowed and returned at the end of our shift). The program coordinator of the hospital will reach out to you a few days prior to the start date of your rotation to let you know the details of each specific clerkship.

Work hard in rotations and learn as much as you can. It will help us become amazing residents and future attendings :)

Good luck studying,

Med Tutor Hussain
